An Update From The Calgary Ostomy President

WP Winter Update

Calgary Ostomy Society’s President, Pat, would like to provide an update and a special thanks to Calgary Ostomates for their support this year!

Hello Friends,

The Holiday season is fast approaching, and I would like to provide the Winter Update for Calgary Ostomy.

It is hard to believe with the weather continuing to be so mild. Because of Covid numbers, we are again holding our Virtual Christmas Party via Zoom on Sunday, December 5th at 1:00 pm. We are focusing on some fun this year, as I’m sure we could all use more of that. The team is preparing games that we can all participate in with some great prizes and door prizes. We hope you can join us for an afternoon of fun and fellowship.

Our “Step Up for Ostomy” fundraising event in September was very successful. Our chapter raised more than $4000 with money going to Ostomy Canada to help with national programs that will benefit us as an affiliated chapter. Ostomy Canada will be reimbursing the us for a few expenses we incurred.
Over 40 participants enjoyed a beautiful day walking in the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary and the BBQ afterwards. Representatives Pete Williams from ConvaTec and Tyler Trefiak from Coloplast came out to spend the day with us and display their ostomy products.

I want to thank the sponsors of our event: Calgary Co-op Home Health Care, CB Medical, Phil’s Restaurant, Blue Grass Nursery & Greenhouse and Nightingale Medical (who sponsored the BBQ). Also, the following provided products for the goodie bags: Attiva Ostomy Essentials, Coloplast, Prelam, and H2ORS Oral Rehydration Solution. Thank you for your generosity and continued support of our chapter and our endeavours.

We couldn’t have organized this event without the participation of a great team of volunteers. Special thanks to all those who helped succeed the day: Tiffany Shorson and her father Len Shorson, Fanny Olds, Deanna Desramaux, Helmut Doerntlein, Pris Squibb, Kaylee and Phil Janse, Anne and Noel Robillard, Sean Currie, and Dietrich Cimmeck.

Our Ostomy Visitor Program is looking for new ostomates between the ages of 35-50 who are interested in visiting with new patients. Please get in touch with Kaylee for more information.

I want to welcome our new Social Media Coordinator, Teresa, and our new Ostomy Visitor Program Coordinator, Leanne, who will be assisting Kaylee.

Our support services are always available for anyone in need. Please get in touch with us by phone or online.
Also, please remember to send in your membership renewal.

Please stay safe during the upcoming season, and we hope you can join us for our Christmas fun event.
I want to end this year, 2021, with a poem I recently read about Volunteers. Volunteers are the backbone of our chapter, and I am grateful for everyone past and present which gives of their time. Thank you for all your efforts. You are appreciated more than words can express.

We wish everyone and their families a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season on behalf of the executive.

Pat Cimmeck, President

Volunteers are just ordinary people with extraordinary hearts. They offer the gift of their time to teach, to listen, to help, to inspire, to help, to grow, to learn. They expect no pay, yet the value of their work knows no limit… They’ve known the unexpected joy of a simple hug. They’ve planted tiny seeds of love in countless lives. Volunteers are just ordinary people who reach out and take a hand and together make a difference that lasts a lifetime.
