Calgary Ostomy News Spring 2022
No matter how long the winter… spring is sure to follow!
Hello friends! Calgary Ostomy news and events are now available in both our Simply Ostomy newsletter and blog.
We have been lucky with a relatively mild winter for the most part. Covid-19 restrictions are being lifted, and we hope that things will be back to “normal” soon. I guess time will tell. For now, we still feel that it is in everyone’s best interest to have our general meetings on Zoom. We hope that we can try a face-to-face meeting by June.
Our Christmas celebration was a fun afternoon of online games and prizes. Special thanks to Tiffany, Teresa, Pris and Deanna for putting this together for us.
Ostomy Visitor Program Update
The Ostomy Visitor Program continues to be by phone or Zoom only as hospitals are still restricting visitors.
Ostomy Canada Society has had some exciting webinars in recent months. If you missed it, please visit their website. The next webinar will be held on April 20 at 5 pm EST. Click here for more information.
Ostomy Youth Camp News
Youth Camp is a go this year, at least from Camp Horizon’s perspective. It is yet to be decided by the national camp team if they will go ahead. When bringing children into the province from other parts of the country, there are many things to consider. Especially with the uncertainty of Covid still a factor, they may decide to postpone for one more year.
Calgary Ostomy Volunteer Updates
Tiffany has started a Marketing & Communications team that will manage the website, social media, newsletter and virtual meetings. There will be updates to our website to provide more information and assistance to both new and veteran ostomates and their families.
Calgary Ostomy welcomes two new volunteers: Heather Williamson, who has offered to assist with technical support, and Donna Battaglia, who has offered to contribute urostomy content for the newsletter. We are still looking for volunteers to fill the positions of Membership Coordinator and Young Adults Coordinator, as well as contributors for the newsletter. Volunteers are also needed to coordinate the Step Up For Ostomy fundraiser this fall. Please click here more information.
Spring Event Announcement: Managing Common Ostomy Skin Issues
We will be holding our Spring Quarterly Meeting on March 30 at 7:00 p.m. It will be on Zoom once again. This event will feature NSWOC nurses Andy Chua and Jessica Damm. There will be a presentation, “Managing Common Ostomy Skin Issues,” followed by a live Q&A. It will be an excellent opportunity to learn, ask questions, and hear from others who can relate. This meeting is recommended for those who have had or will be having surgery for an ileostomy, urostomy, or colostomy. There will also be a free giveaway for some products to help with skin concerns! Special thanks to our sponsors, Hollister, Coloplast & Convatec. Please be sure to RSVP to be entered in the draw.
We hope you can join us for our March meeting. Please visit again for more ostomy news in Calgary!
