Ostomy Nutrition
June 21, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm MDT
FreeJoin the Calgary Ostomy Society on June 21 at 7:00 p.m. for our quarterly summer meeting. Guest speaker Rory Hornstein, registered dietician and specialist in digestive disorders, will be speaking on the topic of Ostomy Nutrition.
Ostomy Nutrition is an education session offering more than just dietary advice. It focuses on providing the missing nutritional links for Ostomates that support overall health and vitality. This is an opportunity to discuss specific concerns such as dietary limitations leading to reduced nutrient intake or output issues causing distress. It is essential to gain relevant guidance specific to individual needs after surgery. Difficulties with dietary intake after colostomy or ileostomy surgery, in particular, can be due to myriad factors that may be unrelated to the actual foods being consumed. Resisting intestinal tract issues may make some foods difficult to assimilate, such as inflammation, ulceration, fistulas, strictures, etc. These challenges often need to be addressed and healed before nutritional intake can be expanded and optimal digestion and absorption of nutrients restored. Join Rory Hornstein, someone who understands the complicating factors of ostomy nutrition.
Persons with an ileostomy, colostomy, urostomy, j-pouch, and their supporters, are encouraged to attend.
