Calgary Ostomy June 2023 e-news

Summer season is almost upon us, and the Calgary Ostomy Society has a busy spring! We have some news, updates and events to share for June and July 2023.

Our 55th Anniversary celebration was a great success. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the event and the volunteers who helped set up and take down.

For the past two months, we have tried hybrid support group meetings where participants meet in person at a local library or via Zoom. They are working well, and new people joined us for these evenings. Persons with an ostomy or j-pouch and their support are welcome. Please visit our Events page for upcoming meetings.

On June 14, we held a short Skincare Presentation via Zoom with a new NSWOC in our city, Alyson Wood. Stay tuned for the YouTube video.

Our annual AGM and Summer Social will be held on Wednesday, June 20, at the Highland Park Community Association. Please join us for strawberry shortcake and fellowship.

On July 8 we will be meeting at Spruce Meadows. On July 12 there is a special event hosted by member Anne Robillard, Wild Results Forest Therapy. Visit our events page to sign up today!

On July 19, Ostomy Canada Society will hold their next Webinar on Ostomy Reversals, so please watch for that announcement here…

Dr. M Raman will be doing a presentation in October (date to be announced), and we will hold the national Step Up for Ostomy fundraiser on Saturday, September 16. We plan another awareness walk and vendor fair in conjunction with this event. We are in need of volunteers to assist with Step Up event planning. If you are interested, please sign up here…

Our chapter is sponsoring six campers this year for the Ostomy Canada Youth Camp this summer in Bragg Creek at Camp Horizon.

Special thanks to Craig Bean and CB Medical for continuing with the cash match, where all cash donations made at our Christmas event are matched dollar for dollar.

We are still seeking a new Treasurer. Tiffany also has a lot on her plate and we are in great need of a few tech savvy volunteers stepped up to divide the work, including Administrative, Membership, and Communications tasks. We will be posting volunteer jobs on our website during the summer, so please check back for updates, or contact us if you are able to assist.

We hope to see you at the AGM. The executive wishes everyone a fun-fiilled summer!
