President’s Message September 2019

Hello Friends,

It’s time for the Calgary Ostomy Society fall meeting again and we have a great opportunity planned. This is your chance to ask the questions you’ve always wanted an answer to. We are having our Ostomy Tips night. A great opportunity to share with other new and veteran ostomates, tips on personal care and lifestyle coping skills. We hope to have an NSWOC nurse present to answer medical and appliance-related questions.

We have also changed our mailing address. We have moved the mailbox to a more accessible location. You can find the new address in the newsletter.

The Ostomy Youth Camp was again, very successful. In the newsletter, you will see some of the kid’s thank you’s and comments. As for me, after 30 plus years, I have retired as the national Youth Camp Administrator. I leave camp operations in the most capable hands of Lisa Gausman. I am confident she will do a great job.

At the meeting, we will also have an update on the results of the national meeting in Halifax.

Small support group starts up again Tuesday, October 8 at 7:00 pm at Wellspring on Home Road, NW.

For those of you who missed the June program, you will find Rory Hornstein’s presentation on Ostomy Nutrition in this newsletter. Online Members can access the full PowerPoint on the Member Login Page.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

My sister Has recently been released from foothills September 26. She was admitted may 10. She has a colostomy bag and is now at home line I said . I am wondering if she should join to learn more. She can’t get around much yet but is getting better and having trouble with the bags as they keep breaking. They are also on a limited income.
Please advise and I can see what she can do . Thanks
