President’s Message Spring 2021

President’s Message Spring 2021

Hello Friends,
Here we are in March, almost one year into the Covid-19 pandemic, and restrictions, lockdowns and little else seem to have changed. Social distancing, wearing masks, keeping our distance from family and friends, discouraged from travelling, businesses closed are still a current reality. How much our world has transformed.
Despite all the challenges that are now part of our daily lives, we keep moving forward. The new vaccines are being distributed and we will all have the opportunity to get immunized against this constant threat. It is especially important for those of us who are immunocompromised.
Because of global circumstances, we are forced to continue with virtual meetings until we can again meet face-to-face, so we are trying something a little different with the March meeting. We will be hosting a Virtual Vendor Fair, where representatives from the various manufacturers and vendors will be making 10-minute presentations about their products. There will be a question and answer period after the presentations. Nightingale Medical (Marlen Canada) will be providing a door prize! We have never done this type of virtual “show and tell” program before so it will be an interesting first. Please join us for the newest in the ostomy products world.
We are still unsure if Ostomy Youth Camp will proceed for 2021. There are so many factors to consider when bringing in campers from across the country especially with the travel limitations suggested by different provinces.
Our visiting program is still active, although all visits are done over the phone or Zoom due to Covid-19.
The February support group meeting was successful and we have new dates coming for April and May.
Dr. Raman, a GI hydration specialist, will join us for the June meeting to speak about the importance of maintaining good hydration with an ostomy and some of the finer points on how to do so. She will also address the importance of good kidney function for an ostomate.
The executive joins me in wishing everyone and their families to stay well and safe.

Pat Cimmeck
